“Palmento” is the millstone of the first years of 1900 where till 25 years ago was producing the Etna red wine.
Part of the building was restored in 2013 and it has still his original functionality:
- two tanks made by lava stone, one for the pressing, the other for the grapes fermentation
- the very ancient method for the pressing of the grapes called in Sicilian “ghianca” made by wood screw and lava stone
- a big barrel.
Nowadays inside there is an ethnic - anthropological museum of ours rural culture. There are a lot of tools that were used till the 1960s: shoemaker’s tools, sacks for grapes transportation, ancient keys, the laundry, demijohns, traditional balances, a plough, a lantern, pots and pans, ceramic plates, wicker baskets for women and men, homemade socks, ancient panty and much more..
